Living in the now

Depressed people live in the past. Anxious people live in the future. If you want to be happy, live in the present.

I’ve been hearing this a lot from different people lately. And I believe in this.

If we keep on looking back at our past and wonder about all the what-ifs and maybes, you think we’ll ever enjoy our lives? And if we always worry about the future that’s not even happening yet and no guarantee that it’s gonna happen, you think we’ll ever be truly happy?

Yes it’s okay to think about the past. Yes it’s perfectly fine to prepare for the future. But don’t dwell on it. Not to the point that you won’t be able to see what’s happening now, right in front of your eyes.

Let’s live in the now and enjoy it. Don’t let the present moment be your ‘next past’ that you’re gonna regret. 🙂

  1. So true. Because I have anxiety and panic attacks, I’m ‘constantly living in the future’ because I worry about it all the time. Depressed people do live in the past, so I guess that does leave happy people in the present. Maybe I should focus on that more…
